About Us
Marisol was raised in Venezuela where manufactured and processed foods were uncommon in her home. Whenever she wanted something from the grocery store, her mother would say her,
"Comida hecha en casa es lo mas saludable" (Homemade food is the healthiest for you).
As a child, she translated it to mean that they can't afford it. Marisol learned early how to prepare homemade meals from fruits and vegetables that didn't have labels to explain what they were.
When Marisol came to the United States, reading food labels was a new concept to her. Most of the food on the labels she couldn't pronounce, and they weren't words taught to her by her English teacher.
Marisol was introduced to the convenience and culture of the American diet and her health felt the difference. She realized when her mother said,
"Homemade food is the healthiest for you,"
that she didn't say it because her family couldn't afford the processed foods. She said it because Marisol's health couldn't afford the processed foods.
Marisol then went back to her roots. She threw out the labels she couldn't read and made everything homemade. She wanted a healthy plant-based diet but missed the meats. That's when she decided to experiment to produce her own plant-based protein that tasted like the meat but with natural ingredients and homemade.
After a lot of trial and error, Marisol's Homemade was born. Her family loves it. Her mother loves it. And she hopes you will love it, too!
